Here you will find information about Gagne's tools, which consists mostly of sticks at the moment but I am trying to obtain information regarding his other equipment in the meantime.
Easton Ultra Lite
Years(s): 1998-2000
Team(s): Quebec Remparts, Team Canada and Philadelphia Flyers
Also used by: Jarome Iginla, Paul Kariya, Brian Leetch and Patrick Marleau
Stick info: Simon used this stick for a number of years, notably in his rookie and sophomore days in the NHL and also at junior level with the Quebec Remparts in the QMJHL. Although the the Easton Ultra-Lite shaft is incredibly light, it is widely regarded as a very durable stick that produces consistent results. The Ultra-Lite was broadly used in the NHL during the early 00's probably because of its dependency. He had a unique way of taping his stick. By wrapping and spiralling it down the shaft and blade, it is easily recognisable to be Gagne's. The beautiful square colouring on the shaft is still one of the nicest shafts on the market.
Easton Synergy
Year: 2000
Team: Philadelphia Flyers
Also used by: Rod Brind'Amour, Mike Comrie, Peter Forsberg, Marian Gaborik and Niklas Lidstrom
Stick info: I cannot seem to find too much information relating to Simon using this stick on a regular basis but had seen that he used the Synergy model during the 1999/00 Playoffs, even though he was a heavy Ultra Lite user in his rookie season.
Nike Ignite
Years(s): 2000-2002
Team(s): Philadelphia Flyers and Team Canada
Also used by: Pavel Dastyuk and Mario Lemieux
Stick info: Gagne turned towards the Nike range after switching from Easton in his sophomore season. The Radius Edge profile on the shaft provides a more comfortable, anatomical feel between the shaft and the glove. Nike's LOWKICK™ construction places the kickpoint close to the blade-end of the stick, reducing twisting and torque, providing a shaft flex with a firmer snap action, quicker release, greater velocity, control and accuracy. The Fibertac™ grip coating, improves grip for better stick control and more accurate shooting and passing.
CCM Vector
Year(s): 2003/04?
Team: Philadelphia Flyers
Also used by: Vincent Lecavalier, Alexander Ovechkin, Jason Spezza and Joe Thornton
Stick info: Much like the Easton Synergy, I cannot seem to find anything with regards to Gagne and the CCM Vector. I can only assume he borrowed the stick from another player after his had broken. I don't believe he used the Vector regularly.
Bauer Tri-Flex
Years(s): 2002-2004
Team: Philadelphia Flyers
Also used by: Kirk Maltby
Stick info: One of the first composite sticks introduced into hockey, the Tri-Flex was designed to increase shot velocity as more players demanded a stiffer, responsive shaft, but in order to achieve maximum loading, the shaft also needed to be flexible. Think of TRI-FLEX as a bow and arrow. The bow has two flexible zones and a much stiffer middle zone. When the bow string is pulled, both flexible ends deflect backwards and load as much energy as possible. As the bow string is released, the arrow is accurately projected forward at a high velocity.
The stiffness of the hosel (shaft of a replacement blade) is about 3 times more flexible than a typical composite shaft. In the TRI-FLEX design, the bottom flexible zone has a gradual decrease in stiffness leading up to the blade. This transition gives the feeling of taking a shot with a continuous 1-piece stick.
Nike Bauer Vapor XX
Year: 2004
Team: Philadelphia Flyers
Also used by: Jeff Carter and Mike Richards
Stick info: Released in 2004, this all in one composite stick and weighs 455 grams. The Vapor was designed for increased swing speed, superior dexterity and perfect balance.
Nike Bauer Vapor XXX
Year: 2006
Team(s): Philadelphia Flyers and Team Canada
Also used by: Jeff Carter and Mike Richards
Stick info: The Bauer Vapor XXX continued to be one of the most popular sticks among professionals and amateur players. The main reason for its continued popularity is that it weights just 430 grams and was the lightest stick ever produced by Nike Bauer, until the Vapor X:60 was released in 2009 just two grams lighter. The pure flex profile and N-blade technology allow the Vapor XXX to offer a quick release and a true flex pattern with a remarkable kick. But the durability of the stick has been questioned in the past.
Nike Bauer One90
Year(s): ???
Team: Philadelphia Flyers
Also used by: Evgeni Malkin and Eric Staal
Stick info: This stick was designed and engineered to withstand maximum torquing to deliver a consistent low-mid flex for superior loading, increased velocity, greater accuracy and more powerful shots. Featuring a square double concave shaft with a tactile texture coating, true mono-comp technology witha .520 power taper and a core blade for long lasting torsional stiffness and a great feel of the puck.
Nike Bauer Supreme One95
Year(s): ???
Team: Philadelphia Flyers
Also used by: David Booth, Nathan Horton, Patrick Kane, Ryan Kesler, Alexander Ovechkin and Steven Stamkos
Stick info: This was the hottest stick on the market when it was released in 2010 with over 125 NHL-ers pledging with the One95. Weighing in at around 470 grams, the shaft has a double concave wall which tapers towards the blade. Designed to withstand maximum loading, it delivers power in each and every shot. With its low-mid flex and a torsionally stiff lower third, the overall design creates more energy transfer per shot.
Nike Bauer TotalOne
Year: 2011- Present
Team: Tampa Bay Lightning and Los Angeles Kings
Also used by: Jordan Eberle, Tyler Ennis, Tyler Seguin, Steven Stamkos and Jonathan Toews
Stick info: Simon first started used the TotalOne during the 2010/11 season in his first season as a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning. This stick is a step-up from the One95 with better feel, power and also considerably lighter at 433 grams. Created by using a stiffer lower shaft with a softer middle providing a stick that is easily loaded. It is perfect for those who lean heavily into their sticks or want effortless shot release. Something that Simon is renowned for, is his wicked wrist shot. He is currently using this stick again during the 2011/12 season with the Kings.
